Directing for BBC3’s ‘Live at the Electric’

Very glad to be working with Avalon shooting the third series of the BBC3 comedy show ‘Live at the Electric’. Can’t really say exactly what elements I am working on but we finished the first shoot on Monday and am very excited about what we are doing. Some great talent lined up on the show so the final programme should be ace!

I’m be speaking at the series of free filmmaker sessions that Virgin Media are running to support the launch of Virgin Media Shorts the on the 9th May. A range of experienced filmmakers will be there including previous VMS winners Luke Snellin and Jason Wingard. Producer of School Portrait, Michael Berliner, will be there too. Come down!

I’m be speaking on the ‘Doing it Digital’ panel at London Comedy Film Festival on the 25th January. Jody Smith, Multiplatform Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 and James Herring from the Poke will be there too talking about how you can use digital media to your advantage in production and marketing to promote your work and get noticed. I’ll be talking about how we designed the #GetSarahBack and School Portrait digital campaigns and what the impact has been.

Selected for Devise to Deliver 2

I’m chuffed to be taking part in the first stage of Devise to Deliver 2 run by Sheffield docfest.

It describes itself as “... a uniquely UK-relevant training programme in how to harness digital technology and create a group of media leaders, reacting to a decline in traditional/public film financing by encouraging expertise in alternative fundraising and audience-reaching in a UK context, and excellence in interactive media production.”
The comprehensive 6-stage programme starting on marketing and funding for transmedia projects, which culminates at the Crossover Market at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2013 where participants will have the opportunity to pitch projects to digital market experts in matchmade meetings in a specially-devised version of MeetMarket.

Big Society competing at Bang!

We’re really pleased that Big Society will be screening in three programmes in Bang Short Film Festival in Nottingham.
We made the film with Urban Young Actors in Leicester so it’s great to have a local-ish screening.
Well done all involved.

School Portrait wins in Oz

Another great win for School Portrait. This time the creativity award at the Forster Film Festival: http://www.forsterfilmfestival.com.au/index.htm . Congrats all! Randomly, we’ve also had a request for it to be shown in an Austrian hospital to cheer people up. In a nutshell, one of the great reasons we make film!

Speaking at BAFTA

I’ve been doing a bit of work with Youtube and Google on their Youtube partnering for short filmmakers. I’m speaking at BAFTA on Sunday morning as part of the Soho Rushes Film Festival about promoting content on Youtube, getting your movies seen and possibly even make you £££’s!

Young Director Award nod for School Portrait

Had some amazing news from Cannes! School Portrait came runner up in the Young Director’s Award!
Massive thanks to Crossroads Films for promoting the film and everyone that worked on the film.
The YDA has supported and promoted debuting international creative talent in commercial film production since 1998.
